Jewellery Collection 2019-2020

Yellow gold, white gold, silver set in majesty, powerful adornments, shield-shaped jewellery... Marc Deloche dedicates his sixth jewellery collection to urban and contemporary Amazons.

Amazones

Inspiration. ‘In Greek mythology, the Amazons were a tribe of determined, strong female warriors,’ explains the designer. "Today, women have to fight for everything. A necklace, a ring, a set of jewellery can be like armour, helping you feel more conquering. Wearing jewellery is a way of protecting yourself from adversity. These objects are a sign of recognition; they convey messages. The design of this sixth collection is not insignificant; the volume of the pieces is striking." Comprising nine models, this precious and architectural set is based on four mythological figures: Lysippe, Thalestris, Antiope and Penthesilea.

LYSIPPE

This Amazon aroused Aphrodite's wrath with her contempt for marriage and her love of war. Like a golden belt protecting the throat, Lysippe is a modular piece containing three jewels. It is a powerful dog collar where yellow metal is paired with silver spheres highlighted by diamond fastenings. From the same metal emerges a cuff that transforms the wrist into a tour de force. At the ends of Lysippé hang two earrings shaped like hollow shields that clatter in the wind. Finally, a ball ring protects the phalanx with a gold shell, simply set with a diamond band.

THALESTRIS

The Queen of the Amazons asked Alexander to father a child whose blood would combine that of the strongest of women with that of the most powerful of men. Marc Deloche projected this ‘masculine feminine’ onto a spectacular breastplate where circles of yellow gold and silver form a collar of polished metal whose multiple reflections give the face an unreal glow. Thalestris is worn with a matching ring where the volumes are enhanced by the two-tone colours of the materials: a scattering of sun-like circles set on a silver body.

ANTIOPE

Daughter of Ares, she married Theseus, King of Athens. Legend has it that Antiope sparked the Attic War between the Amazons and the Greeks when her husband wanted to leave her for Phaedra. Stripped of all embellishments, this elegant piece stands out for its geometric lines. A simple gold circle, finished with two hard stone balls in tiger's eye, holds two open medallions with two brown gems with golden accents in their centres. The metal falls perfectly on the throat. As for the Antiope ring, it combines the rectangular shape of a double gold leaf with the round shape of a tiger's eye sphere for a unique and powerful effect.

PENTHESILEA

Driven by her love of battle, Penthesilea threw herself wholeheartedly into the Trojan War. In homage to this warlike queen, Marc Deloche has created a set of jewellery with remarkable balance. Penthesilea brings to life a large choker carved from a single silver plate that opens onto five concave discs of incised yellow gold. The result is a flamboyant line running between the breasts, like a precious banner of victory. A pair of clips, crafted in the same style from gold obols, adorn the earlobes with an ornament that is as feminine as it is strong.
